This post is labeled under Internet
Many of the world events astonish us. US car manufacturers with decades in the business suddenly brink to bankruptcy and ask government help. Google for less than 12 years commands $ 2.41 billion USD. Microsoft founder Bill Gates was once tagged as richest man in the world. Muslim extremist Al-qaeda networks continue to terrorize countries supporting US. Virus strain strengthens itself with new variants one could possibly imagine before.
All of these events share common characteristics: it is unpredictable; creates a massive impact ---- a black swan phenomena. As Nassim Nicholas Taleb explained on his book The Black Swan, few of us really knew the existence of a black swan. What we knew is all swans are white. Because we are hard wired to learn specifics, we often disregard those who can imagine the “impossible”. Outliers today dominate the business tomorrow.
Web 2.0: The Rise of Social Media
Internet now plays an important role to the world’s societies. The service it offers is now reshaping industries on the next wave of change.
The onset of social media networks success, make the business sectors think on how to penetrate this new mainstream channel. Study shows that an average college student (and some young professionals) spends more time on the social media websites than reading emails. Facebook commands the lead on this business which fills up the basic human social need: building relationships. Software developers, which ride to the tide, design APIs compatible to Facebook gaining success alignment to the website. If one completes the information from the profile, Facebook connects you to your interests, and even to your long-lost friend from college. As one puts it: “I have no problem searching. Facebook will find it for me.”
Less is more as Twitter suggests. Have you ever experience sending a 140-character message over your mobile phone or to your browser and let your followers/friends read it? Using the search options link, you are already on a real-time discussion with tweeters(people log-in at Twitter) on the subject that interests you. The internet service even connects you to high government officials and let them know what concerns you. This forum is being monitored by Fortune 500 companies to feel the grip of the public with regards to services and recent product launches. CNN hosts even encourage you to give them tweets(messages).
The next revolution will not be broadcast
I believe the revolution is now taking place. IT industry experts are now forming the Web 3.0 technologies. Social media sites are paving the way as the new web technology enters the arena. You will notice the partnerships forge between Facebook and other giants: Google,Yahoo and MSN. With your permission, you allow these sites to share information about you. Everything will be funneled in into one remembering your interests, dislikes and friends.
Now, you are just typing the keywords to search topic of interest. In the future, the search engine will know who you are and customize the search that fits your profile. It will suggest even vacation destination that you might consider with your limited budget. Two different people may enter the same set search criteria but generate different search results depending on one’s profile. Few searches will be done; all uniquely served by the search engine.
Thrive as we enter to the next level
We are black swans on our own right. Anyone has a unique experience that may offer others to live a life they wanted to. I seldom use the word “winning”. Winning for me needs to have perfect states to achieve it. “Thriving” on the other hand is driven to help others to succeed no matter what the situation is. Others equate winning by amassing material wealth; thriving is fulfillment-driven. Excesses are just secondary rewards from thriving paradigm.
That’s why I urge everyone to cultivate their interests and live a fulfilling life as the banner of this site suggests. Serve and you will be served.
Let the black swan in you leads the flock as we thrive to the sea of life.
As a person who makes her living in the Internet, I can say that SMM (social media marketing) works on SOME business models, and not all. People are becoming increasingly aware of SMM techniques, and the "stealth" is gone. Most SMM-ers are becoming spammers, even.
ReplyDeleteI can say that SEO is still the best.
As technology trend goes, software developers are now more inclined to develop APIs (Application Programming Interface) on which it could easily adapt on SMM environment.
ReplyDeleteEven now, they are saying, blogging is dying; lifestreaming is in.
Oh well, the only thing that I could say predictable is change...
