Internet: A whole new concept of service that matters

This post is labeled under Personal Development

As we watch our news everyday, we fail not to notice the effect of economic slow down worldwide. People begin to worry what will happen if the series of bad news about the economy continues unabated. Experts stop and reflect on the ineffective things we do that created the mess we are in now. The search for global solutions to improve life is on.

Just like an ordinary observer of things happening around, I accept the philosophy of Einstein: We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them. We are on the internet era where we apply industrial age solutions. This can not work.

I often share my experience to my students how things work before their time. I tell how I envy of the opportunities that lay before them on the internet age. With the right attitude and commitment, anyone can accumulate wealth and enjoy life more.

Employed for life: Do we want this?

There is an increasing sentiment among young people today whether to follow the path what their parents did: lifetime employment. Even I often wonder if this is life all about. I met people who worked more than 20 years but achieved little.

I never question employees dedicated serving their organizations. In fact, I’m happy knowing their experiences, promotions and the company that defined their character. As long as you are happy of what you are doing, I am always grateful to people who render service to others.

But for the most people (of more than 20 years working) I have asked, they advice me to rethink other possibilities beyond lifetime employment. Though they reached the pinnacle success of their career, their job sometimes tie them down even after working hours often sacrificing health and personal life. To them, if they are not tied to their financial responsibilities, they will go back and choose work that gives meaning and joys to their lives.

Wanted: Quality life

With the onset of the internet, some professionals have begun to choose telecommuting (working away from office) over an 8-hour job. Instead of going to work where you need to travel at least 3 hours a day, you are now doing your work at the comfort of home. Have you ever noticed how productive you are every time you are free from the pricking eyes of your boss? Stress-free environment assures more quality output. You live longer and healthy, too.

Programmers, analyst, virtual assistants, consultants, writers, editors are examples of telecommuting jobs among others. Companies are also sprouting looking for telecommuters. All you need is telephone line, dsl modem and PC to transact your business online. More money and time are saved as you produce quality output. You live happy because of the free time you have spending with your family and to the things you love most. Is this the reason why we work in the first place? Not only we quit the rat race, we begin to return to our own self and stop from being a rat.

Macro to micro view (and back)

Many believe before that the internet or websites are purely static pages. What’s lacking is the personal appeal to go back and visit the site again. Its main purpose is to inform the public (this time worldwide) of what the organization/companies can do to serve better. As it continues to evolve, web log (blog) now is included as a separate page to inform the people of what’s the update inside the organization and possible launching of other anticipated products. Blogs give personal voices from the top CEO to the ordinary employee of the company. And consumers can post inquiry and messages, too.

No wonder why companies continue to research on the effectiveness of blog as another channel of communication to reach investor and clientele alike. Some Apple Ipod forum blogs are not formed by the company itself. These are just enthusiasts who share the same interest of things you can (and can’t) add or do to an Ipod. Forums that forms communities. Voices what companies would want to hear to better their services and future products.

Blogs are search-engine friendly. Unlike static pages, the content-enriched blogs are updated on a regular basis. The keywords scattered all over the site are sometimes enough to gain web page ranking on search engines. With this in mind, you increase the effectiveness in disseminating information about your topic. Information is the key to be successful on a global economy.

The worst time: the best of times

According to author Robert Kiyosaki of Rich dad Poor dad, every time there is a global financial crisis opportunity knocks. With a limited view, you would say that this is bad for everyone. A financial crisis sometimes signals the transfer of wealth among individuals or countries on a macro point of view.

No one isolates self on a global setting. This is a good thing. The crises we are facing now are opportunities. Opportunities to beat The Big Boys (business giants) with their own game. I believe internet plays a vital role to those who haves and haves not but equally capable. Now is the time for anyone to be heard and hear other voices who share same passion and interest. As the world consumes the service you offer, you are rewarded with fulfillment (if not financially). Service with a personal touch is more appealing and what everyone wants. Thrive in the worst time.

I advocate thinking more than just learning every time I teach my students. Be a problem solver and they all come to you. The more problems you solve the more you are rewarded. Learn to improve self at all times. Opportunities abound globally. Search on them.

So, hop in on a journey with me. Cultivate your interest. Share it with others as we embrace giving service to humanity.
